Get to know Catherine Lara, Vice President, Estates Transfer Manager, Wealth Management
Catherine finds meaning in guiding clients through the financial processes associated with loss.
1. How would you describe your role and key responsibilities?
As Estates Transfer Manager, I oversee the transfer of estates and assets for deceased clients’ accounts, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficient processing while leading and developing a strong team.
2. What motivated you to pursue a career in finance, and what keeps you passionate about your work?
I was originally drawn to the flexibility of banking, problem-solving, and the opportunity to support clients. Over the last 20 years, I’ve developed a strong interest in the estate process. I find the work meaningful, knowing that what we do truly helps our clients, especially when they’re experiencing the death of a loved one, one of life’s key moments.
3. How has the financial services industry evolved since you started, and what changes have you observed related to your work?
The industry has become more complex and highly regulated, with increased automation and higher client expectations. In Operations, we play a critical, behind-the-scenes role in risk management and strive to deliver a white-glove client experience.
4. What do you like most about working in operations management?
Definitely turning complex situations into workable solutions. I also enjoy collaborating with other Operations teams and business partners to continuously improve and support how D.A. Davidson does business.
5. What skills do you believe are essential for success in your field and how do you cultivate them?
Willingness to learn is paramount, but attention to detail, critical thinking, and adaptability are just as important. These are cultivated through strong communication, continuous learning, and collaboration.
6. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Learn the rules and the “why” behind them. Ask questions and build relationships—never underestimate their value. Build accuracy and follow-through.
7. How do you balance the demands of your job with your personal life, and what strategies do you use to manage stress?
Clear prioritization is important, and so is empowering my team. A good sense of humor—I don’t leave home without it!
